Alina (Алина)

The golden background in this portrait was inspired by Byzantine art. Nonetheless, it was used to provide a purely visual effect rather than a symbolic one. The design of the background features patterns borrowed from the embroidery of Russian rugs.

The girl pictured is Alina Zagitova. She wears a minimalist robe-like sweater that makes the viewer focus on her face.

The purpose of this artwork was to get as close as possible to invoke a modern Russian aesthetic.
