Etude - 2016 |
To me a portrait is not a mere depiction of the subject but rather an opportunity to get to know the subject. This portrait in particular was done with a fine ink pen and was not sketched. I tend to start with the left eye, move down to the nose and get up to the right eye. For me proportions have to be dictated by intuition for it gives a more personal style to the portrait.
When making portraits I tend to listen to music which to me seem appropriate with the subject. For example in this portrait i was listening to a waltz by Tchaikovsky because of the subjects refine features. The hair in particular was to me a symphony of waves pouring into the paper in a beautifully rhythmic fashion.
